Boris [Boris] Kahnweiler 2 lithograph, 1921, the only known state, a very good impression, printed on fine wove paper, with full margins, numbered "16/50" in pencil, lower right L. 270x210 mm.

Provenance: a private American collection

In the early 1920s, Juan Gris collaborated regularly with Sergei Diaghilev, producing stage sets and costumes, of which the striking portrait of Boris Kochno presented here was a result. 

Boris Kochno was Diaghilev's secretary, librettist, and eventually main collaborator. They were also briefly lovers.
