[Marcelle the Brunette] |
Provenance: a private American collection
From late 1920 through the summer of 1921, Juan Gris
stayed at Bandol on the French Mediterranean coast.
During his stay, he made a series of lithographs for the celebrated art dealer Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler, including this striking portrait of Marcelle la Brune, a woman from a family of high social standing, who was his lover for this brief period of time.
